News from Sporting Futures

Sporting Futures Coaches really are the cream....

Double congratulations go to Oliver Hooper, Chesterfield Volunteer Coach.

Oliver has won runner-up Connexions Derbyshire Limited Young Sports Leader/Young Coach of the Year category at the Derbyshire Sports Awards.

And not to stop at that, Oliver has also recently been awarded the Young Sports Leader/Young Coach of the Year 2008 at Chesterfield Town Hall.

Oliver volunteers regularly for Sporting Futures, taking an active role within the organisation, particularly during half-terms. Oliver coaches a wide variety of sessions, at venues such as Eastwood Park (Hasland), St Augustines Church (Birdholme), and Stand Road (Newbold). Oliver coaches a variety of sports, including football, basketball and multi-sports sessions. Throughout the summer Oliver has been volunteering around 20 hours per week. His committed and professional approach means he has earned the respect of a number of children who don't give respect easily. In the past year he has completed over 500 volunteering hours in various settings. He holds Level 1 NGB qualifications in volleyball, cricket, boccia, handball and cheerleading. He has taken a highly active role within the Sportsability Club held weekly at Brookfield Community School. He was recently appointed as a Chesterfield Young Sports Ambassador.

A generous Capital One 10K race team decided that their winnings from the Mizuno fundraiser competition, £500 worth of Mizuno running shoes and t Shirts should, in fact, be given back to Sporting Futures!

We are delighted with their donation, which has been added to the spectacular amount they raised via JustGiving of over £1200!
The Capital One team are now in training for the 2009 event, we wish them success.

We would also like to sincerely thank Julian Moorhouse and the Mizuno team for their continued support with  the race.
