Sporting
Futures have been working with groups of young people in Cotmanhay
helping them to achieve their Junior Sports Leader Awards (JSL), the
course helps the young people to deliver sporting activities within the
local community.
They have been actively taking part in learning
new skills including communicational, organisational and planning. They
have delivered sporting sessions to both their peers and primary school
children with whom they produced a sporting festival with 160
participants.
They also showed their versatility volunteering at
the Sporting Futures annual 10k & family fun run, handing out
vital
water, bananas, T-shirts and medals.
The
group now have the opportunity to gain further qualifications as we
will be delivering a Community Sports Leader Award (CSL) which will see
the young people each give 10 hours voluntary back to the community and
gain first aid training.
This course will
also see other young people from the local area involved in the award
as we are hosting it at South East Derbyshire college as part of a
trial partnership scheme which we are hoping to grow over the next
year.
